Alma 40:23. No Hairs Lost.
The declaration in Alma 40:23 that not one hair would be lost in resurrected bodies is impossible, since we continually renew hair skin cells, blood cells, and other bodily cells.
The biologist who raised this objection published his article in a conservative Christian newspaper. In view of the fact that, in the Bible, Jesus told his disciples, “there shall not an hair of your heads perish” (Luke 21:18), it is surprising that the editor let it pass. If we take Jesus’ words literally, must we consider him a liar? It seems obvious that both the Bible and the Book of Mormon passage are examples of hyperbole, designed to illustrate the completeness of the resurrection and of God’s care for the faithful.
