Salvation in Mormonism

Jesus Christ in Book of MormonMormons believe to gain salvation is to live with our families and with Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ eternally. In that state, we will be perfectly happy and continue divine work. This salvation can only come to an individual when he or she applies the Atonement of Jesus Christ to his or her life.

Mormonism teaches that Jesus Christ saves man from both spiritual and physical death. Because Jesus Christ was resurrected, each person that has ever lived will overcome physical death and be resurrected as well. In order to overcome spiritual death, however–which is separation from God–a person must have been a faithful follower of Jesus Christ or accepted His gospel after death. Through the application of the Atonement in their lives, we can be made perfect after we have done all we could do to live righteous lives.

When one is forgiven by the Lord, the Lord has promised that “he who has repented of his sins, the same is forgiven, and I, the Lord, remember them no more” (Doctrine and Covenants 58:42).

Mormons believe much of the tenants of salvation are found and taught in the Book of Mormon, which is another account of Jesus Christ, specifically of His visit to the people of the American continent. The Book of Mormon came about in the hands of Joseph Smith, a modern-day prophet who founded the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, or the Mormon Church. In the Book of Mormon, one learns of Christ’s love and His laws. These laws are essential for salvation, for the proper teaching and direction of His church on earth, and for each person to come to know their Savior personally.
