Metal Records and

Stone Boxes

gold-plates

The Book of Mormon was translated and published in 1830 from an ancient record inscribed on plates that had the appearance of gold. Moroni, the last scribe who had charge of the plates, placed them inside a box made of stones cemented together. At the time of the book’s publication, such claims seemed laughable, but since that time much evidence has come forth, both in other ancient texts and in archaeological discoveries, that this was, indeed an authentic practice in the ancient Near East from which the Nephites came. Because many readers are unaware of the hugh volume of such evidence, I have decided to list information about some of the finds, including, where possible, photographs, of metallic plates (most of them containing records) and stone boxes.
